Where do I even begin with this sweet post?! I received an Instagram DM from Austin a few weeks ago that he was planning a surprise proposal for his long-time girlfriend, Maddie. I photographed Maddie’s sister’s senior portraits last year, and apparently Maddie told Austin I was the ONLY one allowed to photograph their proposal someday. Talk about an honor!!! I was already going to be in Charleston the week of the proposal, so I was immediately IN and we started planning all of the fun details!!!

Austin proposed to Maddie on a small beach on Sullivan’s Island, just a few short blocks away from her family home. Maddie’s dad texted them that he needed photos of a nearby house for sale, so Maddie had absolutely NO idea they were stopping on the way back from their date for any reason besides snapping those quick photos for her dad. My second shooter, Katherine and I were hidden behind two HUGE pieces of driftwood on the beach…and we were able to capture every moment completely in hiding! It was SO MUCH FUN!

From there, we raced back to Maddie’s parent’s house on a golf cart…because there were MORE surprises waiting! A HUGE engagement party was around the corner as Maddie and Austin pulled back in the driveway…and it was SO special! Complete with cake, pink champagne and a stunning table design. It truly could not have been more beautiful! I just adore the entire Flemming family, and was SO honored to capture this special moment for Maddie and Austin!
