SEO Made Easy for Photographers in 2026

If SEO makes your brain immediately want to shut down, I PROMISE it’s not just you.

For years, “search engine optimization” felt like one of those things that only techy people understood. And the more I tried to read about it, the more complicated it sounded.

That’s why I’m thrilled to collaborate with my friend Christy Hunter: a photographer-turned-SEO-specialist who explains SEO in a way that’s EASY to understand (with zero jargon overwhelm).

And in 2026, this conversation matters more than ever.

Social media is harder than it used to be. Our followers don’t always see what we post. Trends change constantly.

But SEO is one of the most powerful long-game marketing strategies you can build. Because when someone searches “senior photographer near me” or “Charleston senior photos,” SEO is what determines whether your website shows up…or gets buried.

In my own business, I’ve seen a huge shift:
What used to be mostly Instagram inquiries has now turned into mostly Google + search engine inquiries.

And that’s exactly why SEO deserves a spot in your 2026 marketing plan.

What SEO Actually Is (In Plain English)
SEO stands for Search Engine Optimization.

At its simplest:
It’s how you help Google understand what your website is about so it can recommend you to the right people.

If someone searches for a photographer in your area, SEO is what helps Google decide:

  • Which websites to show first
  • Which pages to prioritize
  • Who feels like the best “match” for that search

The 4 Core Parts of SEO (That Photographers Should Know)
Christy breaks SEO down into four main buckets:

  1. Technical SEO
    Back-end website settings that help Google read your site clearly.
  2. Content SEO
    Strategic content (like blog posts) that proves you’re an expert and helps people find you.
  3. Design + User Experience
    Because even if you rank…people won’t stay if your site is hard to navigate.
  4. Online Authority (Backlinks)
    Other websites “vouching” for you by linking to your site, which builds credibility.

Do You Have to Blog All the Time?
No, thankfully!

One of the biggest myths Christy busts is that you have to blog weekly for SEO to work.

The goal is to build a strong foundation of helpful, strategic content – and then maintain it consistently (without burning yourself out).

Blogging isn’t dead…unhelpful blogging is.
The kind where photographers only post session recaps and hope they rank.

Instead, think:

  • Helpful guides
  • FAQs
  • “What to wear” resources
  • Location tips
  • Session prep content
  • Anything your ideal clients are already Googling

The 5-Minute SEO Fix to Make Today
If you’re overwhelmed and want the easiest first step:

Update your page titles and meta descriptions.
(These often still have template names or default text, which tells Google nothing.)

This is one of the fastest ways to send clearer signals to Google immediately.
