Ellison’s senior session in downtown Charleston was such a sweet one!!! She lives locally here in Charleston and has attended school downtown all the way since elementary school, so this session felt extra meaningful. She wanted her portraits to capture the city where she has grown up: the buildings, the colors, the flowers, the Spanish moss and all of the little corners that make Charleston feel like home.

From the very beginning, Ellison wanted her session to feel natural, fun and true to HER. And I loved that so much!!! We explored Rainbow Row, The Battery and Hampton Park to create a gallery that had tons of variety without feeling too formal or overdone. This session had such an easygoing, casual feel in the best way…but still felt so beautiful and full of personality. Sometimes the most simple, natural-feeling sessions end up being some of my very favorites because the senior’s personality gets to shine so clearly!

Ellison is also a girl after my own heart because her favorite colors are blue and white: the same as mine!!! She highlighted those colors in all of her outfits, and they looked SO perfect against the pastel buildings and soft Charleston backdrops. I loved how cohesive her wardrobe felt while still giving us variety at each location. Between the blue and white outfits, the colorful downtown streets, the spring flowers and the Spanish moss at Hampton Park, every part of this session felt classic Charleston but still completely true to Ellison.

This was one of those sessions that reminded me how special it is to photograph seniors in a city that means something to them. For Ellison, Charleston is not just a pretty backdrop…it is the place she has grown up, gone to school and made so many memories. Getting to document her in some of her favorite places before she steps into this next season was such an honor!
