Oakley’s senior session has one of the craziest weather stories of the year!!! She and her mom drove more than 10 hours from Tennessee for her portraits, and somehow, despite there being zero rain in the forecast, the sky completely OPENED up in a severe storm right as we arrived at the shoot location. We sat in our cars for over 30 minutes hoping it would pass, watching the rain come down and trying to make the best possible call…but eventually, we realized there was just no way to safely or beautifully make the session happen that evening.
And then something kind of magical happened.
We were able to line up makeup for a second time the very next day, got permission to photograph at Boone Hall Plantation before it opened to the public, and met there at sunrise…with the entire property all to ourselves!!! After such a disappointing storm-out the night before, it felt like the most incredible gift. The morning was peaceful, glowy and absolutely beautiful – well deserved for the gorgeous Miss Oakley!!!
We had The Pink Figgy car parked right in the middle of the famous Boone Hall driveway, and I still cannot get over how dreamy it looked. The car, the trees, the soft sunrise light, Oakley’s outfits and all of the floral details came together so perfectly. It felt like one of those shoots where every single thing finally clicked into place after the chaos of the night before. And because we were there before the property opened, we had so much space and freedom to create without rushing or working around crowds.
Oakley’s gallery is floral-filled, glowy and full of so many favorites. I loved how this session turned into something even more special than we originally planned. Of course, no one wants to drive 10+ hours and get stormed out at the last second…but I am so grateful Oakley and her mom trusted the process, stayed flexible and gave us the chance to try again. The sunrise session we ended up with was truly magic from start to finish.
Oakley: Thank you so much for traveling all the way from Tennessee and being so incredibly patient when the weather threw us the biggest curveball! You and your mom were such a joy through every twist and turn, and I am so glad we were able to create something so beautiful the next morning. I hope you love scrolling through some of my favorites
