Mackenzie’s senior session was one of my favorite kinds of shoots: what I call a “walking senior session”!!! As a Charleston senior photographer, I love sessions like this because we can create SO much variety without spending half of the evening driving from one location to another. Downtown Charleston gives us endless beautiful backdrops within walking distance, and Mackenzie’s session was the perfect example.
We started near The Mills House Hotel and immediately had so many gorgeous options to work with. The soft pink walls, classic Charleston architecture and palm trees were perfect with Mackenzie’s white dress and colorful floral looks. I especially loved how her bright, summery outfits popped against all of the pastel buildings and greenery!
From there, we explored some of my favorite downtown Charleston senior portrait locations, including Chalmers Street, Rainbow Row, The Battery and Broad Street. One of the best parts about a walking senior session is getting to stop whenever something catches our eye…a pretty gate, a colorful door, cobblestone streets, ivy-covered trees, historic homes or a random pocket of beautiful light. Some of my favorite images from the entire session came from those little in-between spots we found while exploring!
We definitely got our steps in during this one!!! But that is exactly why I love photographing senior portraits in downtown Charleston. Within just a few miles, we can photograph pastel buildings, cobblestone streets, palm trees, historic architecture, waterfront views, colorful homes and some of the most iconic Charleston backdrops all in one session.
If you are looking for a Charleston senior photographer and want your senior photos to feel colorful, fun and full of variety, a walking session downtown is SUCH a good option. It gives us the freedom to explore, make the most of the light and create a gallery that feels completely different from start to finish.
Mackenzie: Thank you so much for spending the afternoon exploring Charleston with me!!! I had the best time walking all over downtown with you and creating so many different looks along the way. You were absolutely beautiful, and I hope you love scrolling through some of my favorites 🙂
