Handley Kate’s senior session was one of those shoots that felt like the FULL Charleston experience!!! We packed in so many iconic locations in one evening and basically turned her session into what I like to call a “walking senior session”…meaning we got in thousands of steps exploring downtown, found so many different backdrops along the way and created a gallery with a TON of variety without constantly hopping in and out of the car.
We photographed everywhere from Rainbow Row and Waterfront Park to the Pineapple Fountain, Princess Street and Broad Street with that gorgeous church view in the background. I loved getting to hit so many classic Charleston spots in one session, but we also stumbled across a few areas that were brand new to me…including the prettiest pink church and some surrounding streets that I immediately fell in love with!!! Even after photographing downtown Charleston for years, it is always so fun when a senior session leads me somewhere new.
Handley Kate’s outfits were SO much fun too. She brought so much color, pattern and personality into every look, which photographed beautifully against all of the pastel buildings, greenery and historic architecture. I loved the pink gingham, the bright greens and blues, and especially the butterfly skirt with the structured blue top…such a cute, unique combination! Then we finished with a classic white look that gave us the prettiest contrast against the glowing downtown light.
Her personality made this entire shoot even better. Handley Kate is bubbly, outgoing and SUCH a shopping girl, so naturally we had plenty to talk about the entire night!!! I love when a senior’s personality comes through not only in her outfits, but in the energy of the whole session…and this gallery feels so happy, colorful and full of life.
As a Charleston senior photographer, these walking sessions are some of my favorites because there is always something new around the corner. One block might give us pastel walls and palm trees, the next gives us historic windows, a church steeple or a completely different color palette. It keeps the session moving, gives the final gallery so much variety and makes the whole experience feel like a fun evening exploring Charleston together!
Handley Kate: Thank you so much for trusting me with your senior portraits!!! I had the best time getting to know you, walking all over downtown and finding both iconic Charleston spots AND a few new favorites together. You were so much fun to photograph, and I hope you love scrolling through some of my favorites 🙂
